From a Latino to Latinas: how many of you got mostly guy friends? Thing is Latin Americans (especially the older ones) seem to not be accepting of platonic relationships as much as whites are. Why is that. Is the influence of the Catholic Church
I just think it's bull.
I'm religious myself
But I object to this
Can you give your ethnicity
I'm Puerto Rican
thanks
And are you an adult or teen
I'm only 18 | | I have both and it pretty much levels out. The way your saying it makes it sound as if Latinas wouldn't have may friends on average. | Why do so many Latinas have guyren so young? I'm not trying to be racist but I'm worried about these ladies. So many latinas are pregant in my neighborhood and quit school to stay at home and rasie their guys while the boys go to school and work. Is this a culture thing?I want them to become something more than unwed teen mothers, I wish there would be more Latinas with college degrees and diplomas and high paying jobs. | | Yes it is a cultural thing, our culture values guyren....I think the only way to prevent this, is if the culture uses education as a way out of poverty. I am Latin, Hispanic and went to college. Education was stressed in my family, so I believe that would be a solution.....Its a problem with most minority groups, not only Latina's. But where I don't agree with you that it is only a cultural issue, it is also associated with poverty. | Is abstinence or birth control the reason for less teen pregnancies in white Americans? It is a well known fact that more than half of Latina girls get pregnant before the age of 20.
I would like to learn more on the difference of how American parents are educating their daughters.
Are they teaching them abstinence, or are they educating them on birth control.
Although Latinas have more teen pregnancies are they really having more sex than other races or is the lack of birth control the only thing that gives Latinas these rates?
The reason I ask is because I would like to participate in educating Latin teen girls on not getting pregnant, but I am not entirely clear on why so many of them are. Listening to your opinions would help give me a better understanding as to how important is it to emphasize on birth control, rather than just abstinence. | | I would say it is the lack of an open relationship about sex with the parents. In most latino families sex is not a topic that parents bring up with their guys let alone birth control. Also most a the latino community doesn't not believe in abortion of adoption and the family will help raise the guy which I feel then makes it easier for the girl to have an other guy. One more fact is that girl don't know where to go to get the birth control and would think it would cost to much money or are just scared for their parents to find out. I am of Mexican descent so no I'm not raciest and I just know what most of my friends when throw. I was luck enough to see my mother struggle with my brother and I ans know that I did not want that for my self and I had my first daughter with my husband after we had a house and knew that we would be able to raise a guy. | Why do MOST Latinas in America get pregnant by age TWENTY? That's really young. Are Latinas just genetically more fertile than other races of women, or what?
This is an honest question; every young American man knows that those chicks are REALLY easy to knock up.

"According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, more than half -- 53 percent -- of Latinas get pregnant in their teens, nearly twice the national average."
That is INSANE!!! | I too read this article earlier today, and as a Latino I found it very troubling. As someone mentioned earlier Catholicism is certainly a factor. There is certainly a stigma in the Latino community against birth control, and Catholic dogma is certainly a cause of that. In order for these numbers to drop we need better sex education in schools, as well as a campaign to better educate parents on how to communicate with their guyren and encourage the use of birth control. And of course the stigma against birth control need to change, I doubt we can count on the church for help on that, so hopefully a public awareness campaign targeting Latino youth can be implemented. As far as I know, there is nothing that makes Latinas inherently more fertile than any other group, although even Latinos make jokes about sometimes.
I don't find your question to be offensive, as you seem to be genuinely curious, and it certainly is a troubling article.
But I have to say that some of these other answers are quite offensive, and blatantly ignorant and racist. I take solace knowing that they are in an extreme minority, and knowing that we young people are largely void of such hate and ignorance. Their xenophobia will pass fairly quickly, and without much fanfare. | Why is it that a lot of Latinas get pregnant in their teens? Have you noticed this too? Man, I'm a latina myself, and I noticed that most of the pregnant girls in my high school were latina. Also, some of the girls that were underclassmen when I was a senior have added me on facebook and they are either pregnant or have guys. My older sister got pregnant in high school as well so I have a reason to believe that teen pregnancy is very common in our culture. | | most of the girls that are pregnant at my school are black. | If More than half of Latinas pregnant before 20 what is the point of having Dream Act? She had many plans for the future: to go to college, start a career, meet the man of her dreams, raise a family — when the time was right.
It was all cut off by an unexpected pregnancy. The baby became her life, consuming her energy and forcing her dreams to the back burner of her life.
She is 20 or younger. And already has had her first baby.
National teen pregnancy rates have plummeted by one-third since the 1990s, but the overall teen birth rate is rising again after 14 years of decline. Latino teens have the highest rate of teen pregnancy and births among all racial and ethnic groups with more than half of young Latinas carrying a guy before the age of 20.
Latina birth rates have declined half as fast as black or white teens’, according to a new survey released Tuesday by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy and the Hispanic advocacy group National Council of La Raza. The survey reveals pregnancy rates among young Latinas at twice the national average.
“There’s a big disconnect between pregnancy rates and what Latina families want and value,” said Ruthie Flores, senior manager of the National Campaign’s Latino Initiative.
Latino girls and women yearn to graduate from college and have successful lives, but the reality is that many are hampered by unexpected pregnancies, Flores said.
Latina teens tend to wait to for their “sexual debut,” Flores said, but once they become active, they are less prone to using contraception than other teen girls. It is also socially acceptable for Latinas to date older men, Flores said.
She said the biggest influence on Latinas are their parents and, despite a rich culture and the growing influence of Hispanics in America, the Latino community disproportionately suffers from troubling social indicators, the National Campaign survey found.
Consider that fewer than six in 10 Latino adults in the United States have a high school diploma. Latino teens are more likely to drop out than their non-Hispanic counterparts, and of all the guyren living in poverty, 30 percent are Latino.
“Teen pregnancy is not an isolated issue,” Flores said. “It’s related to poverty, to dropout rates. That’s going to have an impact on our national as a whole.”
Flores said 69 percent of Latino teen moms drop out of high school, while the guyren of teen mothers are less likely to do well in school themselves and often repeat grades.
“That has a big economic impact,” Flores said.
It’s an impact that is sure to be noticed. By 2025, one-quarter of all American teens will be Latinos.
cnnwire.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/19/… | What is sad is their parents are not teaching them any better. They claim they want to better their lives, then why are their parents not teaching them about responsibility, about birth control or about abstinence if they are catholic. American citizens have had more responsibility over the years of teaching their guyren morals and values. yes some citizens become teen mothers, but the count was going down. And who will pay for all these babies in the long run, the taxpayers. It will be the generation upon generation of families being on welfare. With stricter enforcement those numbers were going down, but since anchor babies are being born by the thousands, more are signing up for benefits, we are paying to have them delivered, paying by them getting wic and medical care, when does it end!
There is no point in the ridiculous dream act, it is a travesty that should never happen! | So many Latinas getting pregnant...is it a burden on society? I see so many Latinas getting pregnant at young age, becoming single mothers, and have little education and not financial stable. I am very disturbed by this. I really think it's unfair that they are burdening the system and people who work hard and stay out of trouble have to support them. I'm sorry if I sound racist, but I just think it is a freaking huge problem. Being pregnant in your teens seems more popular than the ipad. | | The Catholic faith says have as many babies as God wants you to have | Are middle eastern guys interested in latinas? im a teen ..im latina and i like this guy that is middle eastern
he is so hot... we havnt talked but i have catched him looking at me in some ocasions ....* but i want 2 know if middle eastern guys are interested in latinas
thanks
please answeR.! | | Im Turkish, they do not attract me in particular, specially blonde ones but I know some guys from my location love them. .. | Which race has more teen pregnancy rates? A question like this was asked previously; well, one year ago to be approximate. I'm very interested in learning about teen pregnancy, you know, the facts and the opinions. I"m not a teen mom, but, I'd like to know more about the life of one. Also, I'd like for you all to answer that main question. You may base it of teens in the U.S.A, Canada, and England. So, it's out of Blacks (not black-americans, nor african-americans), Whites. You can do Black hispanics and White Hispanics. And Latinas too. But mostly out of Blacks and whites in the western world. Thanks, give it the best you can! | I heard statistically that iit is higher accorance among hispanics.
I live on the east coast, and to be honest, I see more white teens pregnant than blacks.
I see more black woman becoming pregnant, but I don't see many of them carry to term when they are teens. I think blacks (at least here in Jax) are more likely to get an abortion.
However, I see a bunch of young white girls carrying to term.
Wether it is for moral issues or not I don't know. I think black teens are more aware of how difficult it is to be a parent and opt out, while young white girls are more niave and more likely to let their moral issues defend their niavity. |
